The company was anchored by Mr. Hukum Chand Agrawal in 1962 with 150 rupees as a starting finance, 5 kgs moong dal and a strong desire to sell good quality papad and so the enterprise which began from a small venture grew into a “Big Name”.

The unusual sounding name ‘420’ was given by its pioneers, inspired by the legendary Raj Kapoor’s movie ‘Shree 420’. Mr. Hukumchand summed up the meaning of the name stating that hard work paves way for success, no matter what the name is and today the name stands for its irony- ‘TRUST’ only because of its quality assurance & its mouthwatering taste.
‘420’ as known by people otherwise stands for a crook or fraud, but our hard work and consistent quality output changed people’s outlook towards the word. ’420’ today implies hard work and authenticity, in the world of food lovers. The huge business empire saw its expansion in the guidance of the entire family, well woven in the network of all cousins.
“The journey began with ‘Papad’, serving the needs of the mass craving for ‘The Dadi Maa Taste.’ The adds-ons such as various Instant Mixeses etc joined the wagon later due to the needs of products which are non-seasonal and can be produced round the year. As the demand for our Papad increased manifold along with increased capacity, we incorporated modern methodologies of quality control and hygienic plant management.
Directors of the group with more than 20 years of experience in the field, directly handle the quality control department. The basic raw materials come from 420 Papad’s own flour grinding mill, so that the company can exert total control over product quality. The pulses, grains and spices are sourced from Western India's best markets in peak seasons with pre-defined specifications and desired storage conditions (kept in scientific storage).
The automated packaging unit ensures long-lasting freshness & total hygiene of the products.
